Origin

Bitter orange (Citrus aurantium amara) is a small tree of the citrus family, which originates from India and China and was brought to us by the crusaders. It now grows in Southern Europe and many other warm areas of the globe, where it is mostly used as an ornamental tree. It is also a constituent of some liquor.

Action

The rind is traditionally used to stimulate hunger and favour weight gain during periods of convalescence but it is also used for its invigorating and tonic effect on our natural immune system. Finally, it mild sedative and soothing properties make it useful sometimes to ease some stress and nervousness and to help you go to sleep. It is also used for mild digestive problems.

Active components

Its rind is composed of carbohydrates, proteins, minerals, vitamins A and B1, phenolic acids and flavonoids. Our extract contains little vitamin C and lipids. The active components of our nutritional supplements are the flavonoids, of which naringin and naringenin are predominant and most active.

The capsules we offer contain 175 mg bitter orange extract (Citrus aurantium amara) including 51 mg naringin and naringenin. The total weight of the capsule is 425 mg.
